The scenery is spectacular and has remained unchanged for centuries. La Coruña is the largest Galician city and has several attractions like the 19th c. elegance of its glass galleries skirting the harbor basin of La Marina. An old city, La Coruña has managed to preserve a considerable share of its monumental heritage, outstanding among which, are several Romanesque churches like Santa Maria del Campo. Another outstanding monument in La Coruña is “La Torre de Hercules, de Trajano” (Hercules of Trajano Tower) the only Roman lighthouse still working. La Coruña’s most beautiful and original features, are perhaps the bay windows which often cover whole façades. Other towns of importance are: Lugo (with its impressive Roman Wall), Pontevedra, Ourense, and Santiago de Compostela (see page on Santiago). Also worth a mention are the lovely handicrafts of Galicia, such as the bobbin lace from Camariñas, the wooden shoes from Betanzon, baskets from Noia or the Porcelain from Sargadelos to mention just a few |
